BROOKLYN - Pollution concerns in the city's waters may get in the way of a longstanding polar plunge in Brooklyn.

The group Ice Breakers Winter Ocean Swimmers says that after 178 years of jumping into the icy waters off Brighton Beach on New Year's Day, some members are staying on shore for the first dive of 2013.

The group generally goes for a chilly dip in the ocean every Sunday, but it says that last week there was an oily film all over swimmers' bodies when they got out.
