BROOKLYN - Potholes are a common nuisance in Brooklyn, and their pervasive presence continues to be the bane of drivers' existence in 2014.

News 12 Brooklyn has been receiving calls and emails from drivers throughout the borough complaining about the pesky craters. They are created when cracks in the street are filled with water, which then freezes and expands, shattering the asphalt and sending you to a mechanic if you hit it just right.

A number of drivers say the most egregious spots are close to the Brooklyn Bridge, such as on Adams Street, or where cars come off the bridge near Cadman Plaza.

The Department of Transportation says it is sending out crews throughout the city to fix potholes every day.
