BROOKLYN - A major winter snowstorm is pummeling Brooklyn and the rest of the city.

A winter storm warning is in effect for all five boroughs until 6 a.m. Saturday.

News 12 Brooklyn meteorologist Stacey-Ann Gooden says the heaviest snow will fall overnight. As much as 9 inches of snow is expected to be on the ground by Friday morning.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said 365 salt trucks will spread 170,000 tons of salt across local roadways. Nearly 2,200 sanitation workers will be on duty during the snowstorm.

All city schools are closed Friday.
