BROOKLYN - Principals from across the five boroughs were brought together for an introduction to a new approach at the Department of Education. 

New schools Chancellor Carmen Farina addressed the crowd of administrators during the citywide principals meeting in Brooklyn, telling them that they will immediately recognize a softer tone from the DOE. 

Principals were also told that there will be less emphasis on standardized testing, and advisory boards are being created at the elementary, middle and high school levels. 

Educators will be asked to provide their input on a regular basis to help keep the things that are working in schools and to get rid of what's not.
