BROOKLYN - Today marks the opening day of court proceedings in a lawsuit over the controversial Prospect Park West bike lane project.

Some Brooklyn residents are suing the city, saying the Department of Transportation used misleading information to justify keeping what was supposed to be a temporary bike lane.

The plaintiffs claim the DOT inflated the number of accidents before installing the lane, which they say reduces room for cars.

City officials say the proper procedures were followed before the bike lane was put in place.
