BENSONHURST - Parents, teachers and students rallied outside of I.S. 281 in Bensonhurst today, protesting plans for a charter school to share the space in September.

Community members say there's no space at I.S. 281 to house more students from an elementary charter school. The school currently has about 1,200 students and Coney Island Prep is expected to bring in more than 100. Some parents are also afraid the students at I.S. 281 will lose resources and funding.

The executive director of Coney Island Prep says it's already been determined that there is sufficient space to co-locate the charter school.

Community members are putting together a petition for Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina, asking her to stop the move.
