DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN - As some celebrated the Atlantic Yards groundbreaking Thursday, a rally was held panning the development.

Nearly 100 protesters say the developer, Forrest City Ratner, illegally acquired the land for the project - expected to include a basketball arena, office towers and apartments - and that politicians were complicit.

"I don't think anyone in this community who has worked so hard opposing this project regrets what they've done for a second," says Daniel Goldstein, for years the most visible opponent of the project.

State officials have sent a letter saying they will move to evict 22 families and businesses on the Atlantic Yards footprint unless they leave voluntarily by April 3.
