BROOKLYN - Gowanus is already seeing a new surge of development just two months after the Environmental Protection Agency detailed plans to clean up the heavily polluted canal.

One of those major projects includes the 3rd Street Whole Foods, set to open on Dec.17.

Local community organizations say the mostly industrial area is becoming a hotbed of real estate and they want to make sure the community is involved in any rezoning that might change the character of the neighborhood.

A public forum will be held on Monday evening at P.S. 372 to discuss the topic.
