BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn assemblyman is working to help lift a financial burden from Hurricane Sandy victims.

Thousands of New Yorkers who lost their cars due to Sandy were hit with extra registration fees by the Department of Motor Vehicle's office when filling out paperwork for their new vehicles.

Assemblyman William Colton has proposed retroactively waiving the fees by showing insurance paperwork to prove their cars were wrecked in the storm.
