BROOKLYN - Construction on the new pedestrian plaza in Clinton Hill is wrapping up this week, with many people already reaping its benefits.

The Putnam Triangle Plaza is meant to create more open space for Brooklyn residents. The Fulton Area Business Alliance also says the plaza will help small businesses get noticed by more people walking by.

While many are happy about the opportunity for new outdoor space, about 1,900 people signed a petition questioning its necessity and arguing that the money spent could have been used elsewhere.

A block party to celebrate the plaza will be held this Sunday with live performances, food tastings and other activities.
