BROOKLYN - Brooklyn commuters today had to get to work for the first time without the R train.

The busy subway line will not be making weekday trips into Manhattan for the next 14 months while the Montague Tunnel undergoes extensive repairs from Superstorm Sandy.

The final Brooklyn stop on the R train will be Court Street, but riders can transfer to 11 other citybound lines. Other alternatives include the Seastreak/Rockaway Ferry, which is now making stops at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

The MTA and transportation advocacy group Straphangers Campaign was at a number of stations today passing out fliers notifying riders of the changes. The campaign has also created a survey to receive feedback on travelers' R train commute during the closures.

The MTA is expecting all repairs to be completed by October 2014.
