BROOKLYN - Students, parents and even celebrities joined together at the Brooklyn Academy in Fort Greene on Friday to rally for better education.

They advocated for the Education Investment Tax Credit, a bill which would allow people to get a tax credit for donating to public schools and scholarship funds for kids from low-income families looking to attend private school.

Supporters held signs and chanted, calling for the state Legislature and governor to pass this bill into law. Malik Yoba of the television series “Empire” also attended the rally.

Community leaders say the bill will bring more funding to schools and help support programs like music and art that usually are on the chopping block during budget cuts.

So far, the bill has passed in the state Senate. It still needs to be approved by the state Assembly.
