WILLIAMSBURG - Parents and students rallied outside P.S. 196 in Williamsburg in their final push to stop a proposal to move a third school into the building.

A decade ago, M.S. 582 moved into P.S. 196, which is a Pre-K through fifth-grade facility. The school’s principal says the proposed plan to add another middle school to the building could have a negative impact on its students.

According to the city’s Department of Education website, the building is only 64 percent utilized and there is sufficient space to accommodate a much-needed middle school.

If approved, the co-location would go into effect next school year. DOE officials will vote on the plan along with four others on Oct. 30.
