Rally puts spotlight on police-search policy

BROWNSVILLE - Protesters gathered in Brownsville Tuesday night to rally against a police-search policy that they say is racist and targets minorities.

The NYPD's stop-and-frisk policy is targeted at people deemed "suspicious" in an effort to prevent a crime from taking place. But protesters argue the policy is unfair and is abused by officers.

NYPD officials say the policy comports with crime trends and observed suspicious activity.
