For those considering hiring a personal trainer for the first time, Natasha Geigel spoke to Crunch fitness manager Will Harris about what to expect.

Introductions are usually followed by fitness assessments and discussions of healthy goals. The trainer will likely ask newcomers about any history of injuries, illness or other conditions.

Next, Harris takes skinfold measurements, and that's why tight-fitting clothing is recommended. It helps let the trainer obtain an accurate assessment of body fat percentage.

Afterward, Harris has newcomers do a few quick exercises to identify any muscle imbalances. Then, he says it's time to talk about setting some fitness goals.
