Fairway pledges to reopen in Red Hook after Sandy damage

RED HOOK - A Fairway supermarket in Red Hook has pledged to reopen following intense damage from Sandy.

The store, located on Van Brunt Street, is temporarily closed for construction. The interior was gutted when seawater rushed into the building. It took employees about two days to throw out the ruined inventory and, according to Fairway President Bill Sanford, the store should be open within four months.

In the meantime, Sanford says the company plans on putting together 1,200 Thanksgiving dinners for residents displaced by the storm.
