RED HOOK - A firehouse in Red Hook is today celebrating 100 years of service.

Officers, firefighters and former members of Engine 279 Ladder 131 marked a century of dedicated service with a special ceremony on Lorraine Street.

Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano thanked the crew, past and present, for their courage and commitment to the community.

The Red Hook firehouse lost five firefighters in 9/11. They also played a crucial role in Sandy recovery efforts.
