THE BRONX - More than 17 million drivers cross a deficient bridge while traveling through New York City each day, according to researchers from Transportation for America.

A recent report found that there are more structurally unsafe bridges in the U.S. than there are McDonald's restaurants.

Analysts and drivers worry that with a 33-percent cut in federal bridge and transportation funding being discussed in Congress, the existing infrastructure problem could only get worse.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) argues that all of the city's bridges are either in a state of good repair, are already undergoing rehab projects or have scheduled repair work.
