BROOKLYN - Between the snowy winter and enormous potholes, New Yorkers have been commuting on damaged roadways and it’s hurting their wallets.

A new report by a transportation research group reveals that New Yorkers spend close to $700 each year to repair their cars because of unsafe road conditions. It says that many roads and highways in New York City are not maintained and are in poor condition, causing drivers to spend hundreds in car repairs.

The report also says that one-third of local- and state-maintained bridges 20 feet or longer in New York show deterioration.
