Republican Turner wins special election for ex-Rep. Weiner's seat

SHEEPSHEAD BAY - Republican Bob Turner has taken over former Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner's 9th Congressional District seat in a huge upset.

Turner beat out Democratic state Assemblyman David Weprin and Christopher Hoeppner, of the Socialist Workers Party, with 54 percent of the vote.

Party leaders say issues such as Medicare, health care and the debt ceiling were major concerns for voters, as well as President Barack Obama's policies.

Some Democrats are already denouncing the win, saying the congressional district might disappear all together by 2013 due to redistricting.  Others say they already have their eyes on what's to come in this upcoming 2012 presidential election.
