BROOKLYN - Officials say the rescue of trapped Chilean miners is moving quicker than expected and has been successful thus far.

Brooklyn residents are eagerly awaiting news of the miners' rescue. Several groups are holding rescue watch events where community members have planned activities.

In a Park Slope bakery, employees and customers have been riveted by the rescue operation. Brooklyn residents say the miners' ability to survive for more than two months underground is inspiring.
