BROOKLYN - Residents in Sunset Park say people are illegally riding their bikes on the sidewalk and causing a pedestrian safety issue.

Some of the neighbors tell News 12 that they think people ride on the sidewalks due to a lack of bike lanes. They say bike lanes need to be installed and that there also needs to be more enforcement by police.

Police say electronic bikes and motorcycles cannot be operated on sidewalks. Neighbors hope speaking out will bring change soon.

News 12 reached out to the city's Department of Transportation to see if it has a plan to put up signs or install bike lanes in the area. It has not yet commented.
