BROOKLYN - Residents in Brookyn are fighting today to save Long Island College Hospital (LICH) from closures.

Dozens of people, many of them parents with babies in strollers, protested in Cobble Hill to stress that children need the hospital just as much as adults, if not more.

If the hospital closes, nearly 2,000 people could lose their jobs.

LICH is part of the cash-strapped SUNY Downstate Medical Center and the state comptroller's office says it is one of the major causes of SUNY Downstate's fiscal stress.

The SUNY board already voted twice to close LICH, but last week a Brooklyn judge issued a temporary restraining order, saying the closing plans need to go under "adequate review."
