BROOKLYN - Residents are frustrated at changes being made to the traffic pattern on Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard.

The Department of Transportation is installing pedestrian islands and taking away a lane on Empire Boulevard. Drivers say traffic is often backed up, and many are frustrated at having only one lane.

However, pedestrians said crossing the street was harder until the changes were made. According to Community Board 9, the changes were made to improve pedestrian safety.
