Residents meet to discuss alt. Atlantic Yards plan

FORT GREENE - Concerned Brooklyn residents who oppose Forest City Ratner?s construction plan for Atlantic Yards met Thursday to discuss alternative plans for the site.

The residents have formed UNITY 2007, which stands for Understanding, Imagining and Transforming the Yard. They are brainstorming uses for the rail yards space that they believe are more compatible with the existing neighborhood.

Some would like to see environmentally friendly, smaller-scale construction. They say Ratner?s plan raises more questions than answers as to the long-term fate of the rail yards.

The group plans to hold additional conferences to discuss topics relevant to the construction.
