NEW YORK - Residents gathered on the steps of City Hall today to protest budget cuts announced by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Some of the residents say they're fighting for day care funding that was cut.  Under the mayor's proposed budget, only $40 million of the $91 million that was cut will be restored.

Protesters say the restoration is not enough. They say the $50 million lost means 7,000 kids could lose their subsidized child care spots.

Others at the rally were there to protest more than $38 million in budget cuts to senior centers.  The cuts could cause 17 centers to close.

City Council members will begin meeting in the next few weeks to individually to approve the budget.
