BROOKLYN - Residents are putting the final touches on their costumes for the upcoming West Indian Day Carnival parade.

The annual parade is held on Eastern Parkway.

Andre Lucas, of East Flatbush, started building his own costumes about three years ago.  He watched YouTube videos, and he says the rest came naturally.

He says he has had many sleepless nights building his costume since February.

Lucas says the costume cost about $3,000 to make, but also says it's the quality of materials that goes into it that makes a beautiful piece in the end.

The West Indian Day Carnival parade is scheduled to be held Sept. 5.
