CONEY ISLAND - Community members rallied Friday to save a garden in Coney Island.

Residents stood in front of the garden with signs that called for protecting the property. They say the city voted to place a new amphitheater there, and are allowing residents to continue to use the park until 2015 when construction begins.

Community members say that on Thursday, someone came into the garden and tried to lock it up in an effort to keep them out.

Residents say they'll keep watch on the garden 24 hours a day so they won't get kicked out.

A spokesperson for the Parks Department says residents don't have the proper license to use the land as a community garden anymore, and it hasn't been a legal community garden in more than 10 years.
