Impassioned bus riders spoke up at the MTA board meeting on Monday, urging members to fully restore the B37 bus route.

Ever since the B37 bus line was dropped, riders from Bay Ridge to Downtown Brooklyn have asked the MTA board to bring it back. The Third Avenue line was among dozens of bus lines that were canceled in 2010 due to budget cuts. The MTA plans to restore the bus this summer, but it won't be the same as it was in 2010.

When the B37 originally ran along Third Avenue, it traveled from Bay Ridge to Sunset Park to Downtown Brooklyn. When it returns this summer, it's supposed to terminate at Atlantic Avenue, 10 blocks shy of Downtown Brooklyn. Residents who have fought to bring the route back say the change is unacceptable.

MTA officials say they made the decision to terminate service at Atlantic based on ridership levels and the additional cost to go the extra blocks.

Bus riders plan to speak out about the B37 bus restoration plan again at the next board meeting this Wednesday.
