BROOKLYN - The East New York stabbings of two children Sunday were on the minds of many at a safety awareness event at Borough Hall Thursday night.

Attendees were given safety tips on topics like "stranger danger" and how to prepare a "go bag."

Officials held a moment of silence for the two young children. They say it's important to give community members as many tools as possible to stay safe.

There will be similar events held at Borough Hall all throughout June for National Safety Awareness Month.
