BROOKLYN - News that Pope Francis has been named TIME magazine's Person of the Year is being celebrated at a Brooklyn school that shares his name.

Students, parents and faculty from Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy in Prospect Lefferts Gardens say they're all thrilled that the newest leader of the Catholic church has received the honor.

Kids say that because the Pope, who has a picture on display in every classroom, is dedicated to helping the poor and less fortunate, there was no better choice.

Pope Francis was picked by the magazine’s editors as the person who had the most impact on news and events in 2013, for better or for worse.
