NEW YORK - The Salvation Army is stepping up its efforts this week for charitable donations in the borough and across New York City.

Salvation Army organizers say the summer months are when donations are at their lowest numbers, especially when it comes to food.

Organizers say they are trying to boost efforts to solicit donations for their many programs with their special "Doing the Most Good Week," which runs through this Saturday.

They say they are also putting out their traditional red kettles this week for monetary donations.

Residents interested in donating items can bring them to any Salvation Army store or call 1-800-728-7825.
