BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn school bus driver was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old special-needs student.
Officials say the assault took place on the morning of June 25 at P.S. 226, when the driver, 62-year-old Efim Bondarev, parked his bus near the school to let some students off.
Police say a school aide left the bus for just a few moments to escort other children into the school. When she returned, she allegedly saw the driver sexually assaulting a girl, who is said to be mentally challenged.
Bondarev is now charged with sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Officials say the company that owns the bus is Careful Inc. and is licensed by the Department of Education.
