RED HOOK - A charter school in Red Hook hosted an emergency meeting to discuss violence in the community.

In the past week, several students and faculty from the Summit Academy Charter School have been injured due to gun violence, officials say. One person in the community also lost a child.

The school gathered parents, students and faculty together to discuss ways to keep everyone safe.

"Our children are under attack," says Natasha Campbell, the school's executive director. "The Red Hook community has been plagued with violence, historically. And right now we really need to rally our community, our family and our schools together to ensure our children are safe, and that they have a high quality education despite what's going on outside in the community."

The school says that it will put together community service projects each month to help stem the violence.
