Schools chancellor sets out to improve student writing

BROOKLYN - New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott was in Sunset Park today to help teachers implement improved standards for student writing.

Dozens of teachers gathered in groups to discuss key areas they believe students need to improve, education officials say.

The teachers examined work samples from students of different ages and exchanged ideas with the chancellor on how best students could be helped to improve.

Tomorrow is the first day of classes for public schools across the city.
