BOERUM HILL - This summer?s record-shattering heat has many Brooklyn residents diving into public pools to cool down, especially children.

Local public pools don?t require young swimmers to be joined by a supervisor, and kids of any ages can swim. Even though lifeguards are on duty and police are patrolling the pools, the Parks Department is playing it safe by offering the following tips to young Brooklyn swimmers and their families:

-Kids should always swim with a buddy if a supervisor is unavailable-Use common sense when at the pool-Keep a look out for friends? safety, too-Always obey the lifeguards
