FLATBUSH - Local Haitians desperate for information about the status of loved ones have been flocking to the Flatbush office of Councilman Mathieu Eugene, the legislative body's only Haitian member.

"A gentlemen came over here [who] lost 15 members of his family," Eugene says at his office at 123 Linden Blvd. "He passed out. We called an ambulance for him - he was traumatized."

Eugene has been advising people to maintain hope as stories of survival continue to surface one week after the earthquake hit.
