Seastreak/Rockaway Ferry stopping at Brooklyn Army Terminal to ease R train service disruptions

R trains are no longer running into Manhattan on weekdays while crews repair the Montague Tunnel. (8/5/13)

BROOKLYN - The Seastreak/Rockaway Ferry is now making an extra stop to help Brooklyn commuters affected by massive R train service disruptions.

Riders can catch the ferry at the Brooklyn Army Terminal at 58th Street and 1st Avenue in Sunset Park. It will then head to Pier 11, near Manhattan's South Street Seaport, and East 34th Street.

The service extension was made in response to the shutdown of the Montague Tunnel for the next 14 months to repair extensive damage caused by Superstorm Sandy. As a result, there are no longer any weekday R trains going into Manhattan.

The first ferry leaves at 6:20 a.m. and the last ferry comes in at 8 p.m. This will be the schedule until Labor Day, when city officials will decide whether to keep the service going.
