BROOKLYN - The trash could pile up at thousands of workplaces throughout the city after a union representing cleaning staffs voted to authorize a strike.

Local 32BJ, of the Service Employees International Union, is battling management over a proposed two-tiered wage scale in which new hires would get paid less than current workers.
