Sex abuse case against BK spiritual advisor heading to trial

BROOKLYN - The sexual abuse case against a Brooklyn spiritual advisor is heading to trial this week.

According to investigators, Nechemya Weberman abused a 12-year-old girl for years while he was supposed to be counseling her. They say the victim was too afraid to come forward because of intimidation within the borough's Orthodox Jewish community.

A fundraiser was held within the Hasidic community in Weberman's defense last month and drew protests from supporters of the alleged victim.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Friday.
