Sex scandal triggers U.S. Justice Department review of Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center

Former guard Nancy Gonzalez reportedly admitted to having sex with inmates and co-workers. (3/10/14)

BROOKLYN - A sex scandal at a federal lockup in Brooklyn has sparked a review from the U.S. Justice Department.

The allegations of sexual misconduct at the federal Metropolitan Detention Center stem from the prosecution of former guard Nancy Gonzalez, who was sentenced last month to a year in prison for having sex behind bars with death row inmate Ronell Wilson.

Gonzalez became pregnant after her 2012 affair with Wilson, who is convicted of shooting two undercover police officers.

Gonzalez reportedly told federal authorities that she also had sex with at least eight co-workers at the jail, including two supervisors, as well as a second inmate.

Prosecutors say they referred the matter to the Justice Department's inspector general, whose office has declined to comment.
