BROOKLYN - Some Sheepshead Bay residents are rallying against a proposal to build a mosque in their neighborhood.

Community Board 15 Manager Theresa Scavo, who attended a recent neighborhood meeting, says some residents made racist comments about the mosque attracting Muslims to the predominantly Russian neighborhood.

"Their objections were a little questionable," she says. "This community welcomes everyone."

The Department of Buildings has since rejected the plans for the mosque with numerous objections, but officials say the owner of the plot has the opportunity to resubmit the proposal.
