CONEY ISLAND - A senior center on Coney Island has received a $1,000 donation from a local Shop-Rite to help the facility continue to serve the community.

The Halal Senior Center, located on Coney Island Avenue, offers food and companionship to seniors in the area three days a week. Mohammed Razvi, who works at the center, says it's the first of its kind in Brooklyn and is something the community needs.

The center has been open for about nine months.
