BROOKLYN - Authorities are investigating the discovery of skeletal remains inside a Borough Park home.

According to police, officers were called to a residential building near 47th Street and 15th Avenue Monday over reports of a foul smell coming from inside one of the apartments.

They say a 28-year-old woman was inside the garbage-filled apartment and made statements that she wanted to hurt herself. She has been taken to Maimonides Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

Officers continued to scour the apartment and say they found the remains of an unidentified individual.

A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
