Soaring gas prices could tank getaway plans for many

BROOKLYN - Soaring gas prices are threatening to rain on Brooklyn residents? vacation plans this Memorial Day weekend.

According to AAA, gas prices are more than $1 a gallon higher in the city than a year ago, averaging $4 for a gallon of regular unleaded. An AAA nationwide survey found that four of 10 travelers said gas prices have scrambled their Memorial Day travel plans.

For those who are traveling, most public transit is running on a weekend schedule. Construction will be halted on major roads from noon today until Tuesday morning.
