BROOKLYN - A Staten Island woman is dead after being struck by a car near Grand Army Plaza. 

According to investigators, 49-year-old Sokhna Niang was hit at Empire Boulevard and Flatbush Avenue Monday night. 

They say a 37-year-old driver initially kept going, but returned after seeing police set up a crime scene. He told officers that he knew he hit something, but didn't realize it was a person. 

The investigation is ongoing, but police say they don't expect charges to be filed.
