Some BK school aides to get pink slip

BROWNSVILLE - ? The Department of Education says more than 500 school aides will lose their jobs after schools lets out across the city Friday.

Officials say the cuts will help save $13 million, a necessary step to absorb a 5 percent cut to the department?s budget.

The Teacher?s Aide Union, District Council 37, did file a lawsuit against the city. They say they plan to fight the layoffs in court and will continue to vigorously pursue the pending lawsuit to reinstate the school aides. They are due in court on January 19.
