CONEY ISLAND - The 'Sounds of Summer' concert series kicks off tonight despite some opposition.

Members of local synagogues tried to stop the concert because they said the noise was too loud. However, Mayor Bloomberg enacted a bill that allowed the concert series to continue.

Aretha Franklin and the Beach Boys are some of the featured acts during the concert series.
