BROOKLYN - Brooklyn Hospital is working to combat heart disease after new statistics show residents in the borough are at a high risk of heart problems.

According to the city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Brooklyn residents go to the hospital for heart disease 10 times more than those living on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Doctors say they're hoping a new state-of-the-art stress test will help change those numbers.

Brooklyn Hospital physicians say the test is made to detect heart problems earlier and could prevent complications such as a heart attack. They say the results are also given within 24 hours.

Hospital officials say between six and eight people currently come in each day for a stress test, but they want even more residents to start getting checked.
