Steel column from World Trade Center installed at 9/11 memorial

(09/07/10) BROOKLYN - One of the two 70-foot columns from the World Trade Center was placed on a support base today at Ground Zero.

Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.), Mayor Michael Bloomberg, developer Larry Silverstein and representatives from the Port Authority gathered at 7 World Trade Center to praise the memorial.

The columns and several other artifacts are set to be displayed in a $45 million museum scheduled to be opened next year for the 10th anniversary of the attacks. The president of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, Joe Daniels, says heexpects the other column to be raised tomorrow. AP wire services contributed to this report
